Wide Screen Digital TV

Most programmes are now broadcast in a wide screen format.

Almost all new TVs are now  widescreen. If you have a non-widescreen television, you can still view wide screen programmes however you'll need to adjust your settings to fit the whole picture on  screen.

What is High Definition Television - HDTV?

High Definition Television (HDTV) is becoming increasingly popular. HDTV pictures have a much higher resolution than traditional formats, so the picture quality is sharper and more realistic.

You can buy HD ready digital TVs capable of screening high definition broadcasts - most  LCD TV's and plasma models already can - labelled 'HD-Ready.'

It's important to note that while these TVs can carry high resolution images, at the moment you need a HD receiver to be able to watch programmes broadcast in HD.

Online shops and retailers will tell you whether your chosen digital TV is HD-ready, and can advise you about receiving HD broadcasts.
