Forget the “White Christmas” usuals - compact gadgets, the latest celebrity fragrance or the must-have box set bargain: Over-worked, sun starved Brits want to be given a holiday this Christmas, according to new research from money saving site Savebuckets.com.

SAD syndrome may be driving a desire for winter sun but, for many adults, the looming credit crunch and proposed airport strikes over the festive season* could keep Britons at home this Christmas. Savebuckets’ data revealed the scale of debt worries this Christmas – 41% are still paying off credit spending from last Christmas and a further 26% are worried about how they will pay for Christmas this year.

There are, however, more affordable options on Britons’ top Christmas present list which will avoid long airport delays.

Regional Findings

• People living in Lancashire are the most likely to want to leave the country and go on holiday for their Christmas present (one in three, 29%)

• Those in London, Wales and the South are most likely to want theatre tickets (all 13%), with just 1% of people living in the North East wanting to see a show on stage

• After going away on holiday, the top present for Scots is diamond earrings (10%)

• One in ten in Yorkshire would like some nice underwear for their Christmas present (10%).
