36 MILLION BRITS FACE HEALTH RISK AS GAS PRICES ROCKET

Research confirms news out today of pensioners bearing the brunt of rising fuel bills, revealing how energy price hikes are endangering the health of millions of Britons. Research from Savebuckets.com can reveal that more than 36 million Britons** would suffer in the cold because they cannot pay their bills.

How do people plan to survive?

  • The over 55s are the hardest hit. Nearly two thirds said they would cope with the cold by wearing more clothes and would be shopping for thicker knitwear in the weeks ahead (63%).

  • Families will also suffer - A quarter of women are planning to ration the weekly shop and buy less food for the family in order to budget and accommodate for the higher gas prices (25%).

  • Youngsters are preparing to cut back on socializing in order to afford the rising bills (29%) and almost one in ten of these foresee giving up their evenings in order to take on a second job (8%).

  • 20% more people in the North, where winters are harshest, are preparing to cut back on heating than those in the South – there are cold times to be had ahead.

James Wenger, Spokesperson for Savebuckets.com commented that

"If gas price hikes result in people going without heating, serious questions have to be asked, especially with fuel bills expected to rise by another 15pc this winter. People can help themselves by being savvy in the way they shop around for their everyday items.
